What is NerveBlox?

NerveBlox is an AI-driven decision support solution to help anesthesiologists practice peripheral nerve block (PNB) faster.

NerveBlox is able to capture real-time images from any ultrasonography (US) device. The captured images are then processed by state-of-the-art artificial intelligence algorithms and the key anatomical landmarks are automatically labelled for the user. All you have to do is to plug Nerveblox into any compatible ultrasound device.

Block Types

Today, NerveBlox supports the following peripheral nerve block (PNB) types.

Our Values

We believe that businesses must follow explicit and concrete ethical standards. In addition to our ISO 13485 compliant medical device development processes, we took an oath that we will always be aligned with these set of ethical principles:

Declaration of Helsinki, Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subjects

Declaration of Helsinki is a statement of ethical principles for medical research involving human subjects, including research on identifiable human material and data. The declaration was developed by World Medicine Association (WMA) in 1964 and lastly updated at 64th WMA General Assembly in 2013.

Good Clinical Practice (GCP)

Good Clinical Practice (GCP) is an international ethical and scientific quality standard for designing, conducting, recording and reporting trials that involve the participation of human subject.

Frequently Asked Questions

Nerveblox is exclusively a software product that operates on both Windows and Android platforms. It does not require any specific hardware components. It can be installed on a personal computer or integrated into ultrasound devices by ultrasound manufacturers. To run real-time AI processing on ultrasound images, Nerveblox should accesses the ultrasound stream either through its Software Development Kit (SDK) or by connecting via an HDMI interface. With its Windows and Android SDKs, Nerveblox offers seamless integration into cart-based ultrasound systems and handheld ultrasound scanners, making it an compact solution for various healthcare settings.

Nerveblox operates in real-time and does not necessitate the storage of any data for processing or other purposes. It operates exclusively on the platform where it is installed, without any online activity such as cloud services or remote servers. Nerveblox does not store or utilize ultrasound images for the enhancement of AI algorithms. SmartAlpha, the developer of Nerveblox, has no involvement or control in the recording, retrieval, or processing of any personal or medical data.

Today, Nerveblox is an expert of thses 12 most common block types:

  • Interscalene Brachial Plexus
  • Supraclavicular Brachial Plexus
  • Infraclavicular Brachial Plexus
  • Superficial Cervical Plexus
  • Axillary Brachial Plexus
  • PECS I & II
  • Transversus Abdominis Plane (TAP)
  • Rectus Sheath
  • Femoral
  • Saphenous (Adductor Canal)
  • Popliteal Sciatic
  • Erector Spinae Plane (ESP)

A significant amount of new block types are under development.

Nerveblox AI technology for ultrasound guidance is meticulously designed for anesthesiologists performing peripheral nerve block procedures and training. It is most valuable for applications requiring precision and those less frequent procedures that can be challenging due to their rarity – areas where AI capabilities outperform human attention. This versatility makes it an indispensable tool for highly skilled anesthesiologists who may require assistance with these uncommon procedures and peace of mind for image interpretation, especially regarding sonoanatomy.

Furthermore, our technology extends beyond anesthesiologists who are experts in ultrasound imaging. Anesthesiologists, including general practitioners, emergency medicine doctors, who may not possess specialized ultrasound training, can harness the power of our AI technology. Nerveblox provides standard, more accurate, and reliable peripheral nerve block  guidance for them. This inclusivity ensures that anesthesiologists across all expertise levels can provide enhanced patient care through the utilization of advanced ultrasound technology tailored to peripheral nerve block procedures and training.

Artificial intelligence (AI) guidance in ultrasound is most effective when it provides real-time assistance as you scan. Nerveblox is designed to offer this just-in-time guidance by running inside or connecting to ultrasound devices, delivering immediate support on live ultrasound images. It does not rely on storing ultrasound clips on Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) or similar storage systems but operates in the moment. This means you get AI assistance exactly when and where you need it, without the need for pre-stored data. It’s a more agile and efficient solution for enhancing ultrasound procedures and decision-making in real-time.

Nerveblox is CE-marked software as a medical device, indicating its compliance with EU 2017/45 regulations, ensuring safety and effectiveness. This CE marking allows its use in EU countries and regions where CE marking is recognized as sufficient for clinical use. However, it is important to note that Nerveblox is not currently approved as a medical device in the USA. Clinical studies are underway in the USA, and upon their completion, Nerveblox will proceed with the FDA approval process. In the USA, Nerveblox is currently utilized as a valuable training and teaching tool.

It’s perfect time to use AI in healthcare.
